Intergraph Acquires Pelican Forge Software Corporation

DaratechPLANT 2003

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 2003--Intergraph has acquired Pelican Forge Software Corporation, Canada, developer of SupportModeler software for detail design of process plant and offshore platform pipe supports. Intergraph Canada Ltd. purchased the shares of the privately-held firm for an undisclosed sum. Pelican Forge will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Intergraph Canada Ltd. Current licensing and distribution arrangements are unchanged and employees will remain in the company's Saskatoon, Canada, office. Support and development of Pelican Forge software integrated with Intergraph Plant Design System (PDS(TM)) and Bentley Systems PlantSpace will continue. The purchase follows a successful reseller contract signed with Pelican Forge in early 2002. Pelican Forge is the third significant acquisition since 1999 made on behalf of the Process, Power & Offshore division of Intergraph Corporation (NASDAQ: INGR).

Kurt Ingenthron, executive vice president and chief technology officer, Intergraph Process, Power & Offshore, said, "The Pelican Forge software and specialized expertise are a significant addition to Intergraph product strengths as well as SmartPlant 3D and PDS development. It's also the latest example of our successful strategy of vendor alliances and acquisition of complementary software aimed at expanding lifecycle coverage of our products."

Rick Retzlaff, manager, Pelican Forge Software, said, "The acquisition is an opportunity to more closely integrate SupportModeler with PDS to meet customer needs and preserve their investment in both products. The structure of the acquisition will also allow us to continue our commitment to create powerful, flexible and truly useful software for engineers."

Pelican Forge has more than 30 years of mechanical engineering, PDS and software development expertise and maintains alliances with leading global pipe hanger manufacturers. Pelican Forge SupportModeler and SupportManager enable detail design of both standard and engineered pipe supports.

Executives of the Huntsville, Ala.-based Intergraph announced the acquisition at DaratechPLANT 2003, the world's foremost event for process plant design and engineering IT, which continues here through Jan. 29.

Boosting Pipe Support Design Productivity

The Pelican Forge SupportModeler and SupportManager software is integrated with Intergraph PDS ( and its structural module, FrameWorks Plus. PDS is regarded worldwide as the standard software for process, power plant and offshore design. FrameWorks Plus completes the structural design, analysis, fabrication and detailing workflow, to significantly reduce rework and save engineering hours.

The fast placement and full editing functions of Pelican Forge SupportModeler provide total control of pipe support design. The non-template fabrication drawing system allows users to communicate designs with the push of a button for either standard or engineered supports. SupportModeler improves accuracy through automatic material take-off and cut lengths, rule checking, integration with the design process and interference detection. SupportModeler includes extensive libraries of pipe support components from well-known U.S. and European vendors, such as Anvil, C&P, Fronek, Lisega, PSL, Unistrut and others.

SupportManager, a batch processing utility for SupportModeler, speeds administration and deliverable production for large engineering projects. Users can select multiple models, areas or the entire project and process them at scheduled times.
