Using the IES Plug-in within Revit Architecture
Date: January 11, 2008
Place: Radisson Plaza- Warwick Hotel
1701 Locust St, Philadelphia, PA USA
The included IES plug-in within Revit Architecture provides a direct link to IES software . This will enable you to perform easy, top-level analysis of energy efficiency and building performance at early stages of the design process. Simple to use architect oriented toolkits facilitate sustainable design with the click of a few buttons .

Without the need for any specialist simulation knowledge or the need to re-input geometry data, and without leaving the Revit environment, you are able to quickly import the Revit Architecture BIM model into IES’s unique system of integrated building performance analysis tools .

Within Revit Architecture, the Toolkits provide four analysis options :
  • heating and cooling load calculations
  • annual dynamic thermal simulation for energy consumption
  • sun view animation for winter, summer and midseason
  • a daylighting assessment .

The Toolkits automatically run the chosen analysis through the IES suite of building performance software and generate an html report of relevant information quickly and easily.

Analysis of a building’s performance at the early concept stages of the design process allows architects to make informed decisions about orientation, layout, form and construction. Furthermore, generating such high quality building performance information at the early stage of the design process makes it easier to design sustainable, low-energy buildings.

This article is right on the money. As corroborated by nearly everyone who has a pulse on the industry, such as Patrick McLearney, the Director of the AIA, BIM and sustainability will be the primary drivers of change and transformation of the AECO industry in 2008. In 2007, we made tremendous strides towards strategic BIM standards that will help the operational and tactical level BIM implementation and software creation. Addtionally, visionary software firms are meeting the demand for interoperability and high quality information management. As the NBIMS Testing Team Leader and speaking for the team collectively, we hope all these trends continue into 2008 and beyond.
