New BOXX Rendering System Features Six Core Processors and Solid State Drives

AUSTIN, TEXAS, March 18, 2010—BOXX Technologies, the leading authority on dedicated rendering and innovator in high-performance computing systems for visual effects, animation, post production, product design, and advanced visualization, today announced the release of renderBOXX 10400, the latest edition to their renderBOXX series. The purpose-built, dedicated rendering module is now available with up to four six core Intel® Xeon® 5600 series processors for a total of 24 cores of processing power. In addition to renderBOXX, Intel-based 3DBOXX workstations and other BOXX solutions are now available with the Intel Xeon 5600 processors.
“The new Intel Xeon 5600 allows us to deliver up to 50% more processing power than the previous renderBOXX, but without a 50% increase in price,” said Shoaib Mohammad, Director of Marketing and Business Development at BOXX. “The additional cores and improved performance don’t require more space or energy, so when you factor in those benefits, along with solid state drives, renderBOXX is the undisputed leader in performance, efficiency, and reliability.”

Previous generation 10300 five-module render farms featured 80 processing cores in a 4 rack unit space. The new 10400 increases the amount to 120 cores in that same space. renderBOXX 10400 also carries the distinction of being the first dedicated rendering solution to feature solid state drives for increased R/W performance, greater efficiency, and stability. In terms of throughput, the 24 core renderBOXX delivers an astonishing 222 MB per second.
“Workstation and rendering solutions based on the Intel Xeon 5600 are revolutionizing the pace of innovation in the media and entertainment industry,” said Anthony Neal-Graves, general manager of Intel’s Workstation Group Intel technology. “With 6 cores and 12 threads on each processor and bandwidth to move large files, the renderBOXX 10400 provides users with processing power and computing infrastructure to create action-packed 3D and high-powered visual effects faster than ever.”
