Mechanical Solutions, Inc. Announces Addition of Two Distinguished Engineers to Senior Staff

WHIPPANY, N.J. (May 21, 2009) – Mechanical Solutions, Inc. (MSI) of Whippany, N.J. is pleased to announce that two outstanding engineers have joined the staff of its new Albany, N.Y. office. Thomas J. Walter and Charles J. Prisco are MSI’s newest Principal Engineers. Prior work experience for Walter and Prisco include senior positions at Foster-Miller, Inc. and Mechanical Technology, Inc.

Walter is a mechanical engineer with more than 30 years of diverse experience in business development and the comprehensive vibration evaluation of all types of rotating machinery. He is experienced in the application of traditional rolling element and fluid film bearings as well as novel and special-purpose rotor system suspension devices including foil bearings, magnetic bearings and magnetic dampers. Walter is a certified Category IV Vibration Analyst, and is Chairman of the Hudson/ Mohawk chapter of the Vibration Institute. He has authored more than 50 technical publications and has lectured on technical topics ranging from machinery dynamics and vibration to bearing design and balancing. At MSI, his focus is on developing new business opportunities for the company, along with performing special projects, including those involving vibration diagnostics and prognostics of turbomachinery.

Prisco has directed research and engineering efforts related to many types of applications from naval vessels to plant machinery to blood pump products. Previous accomplishments include retrofitting a U.S. Navy submarine steam turbine generator with magnetic bearings; managing the design, manufacturing, testing and field service start-up of steam generator sets; and supervising the testing, energizing, and controlling of complete electrical systems on a Trident submarine prototype and in a naval destroyer engine room. At MSI his focus is on developing new business opportunities for Turbonetics turbine-generators, as well as finding new applications for MSI’s foil bearing line, in addition to performing field service and troubleshooting activities on turbines and other process equipment. Prisco has an electrical engineering background and is expert in generators and switchgear, as well as a wide variety of electro-mechanical hardware for plant machinery. A major area in which he will be applying this background is to the diagnosis and troubleshooting of the country’s rapidly expanding community of wind turbines. Additionally, he is a QB qualified NAVSEA Nuclear Worker and has authored three patents.

“As MSI continues to grow and expand its product and service platforms, we are extremely pleased to have Tom and Charlie join our team to aid us in this effort,” stated William Marsher, president of MSI. “They bring a tremendous amount of hands-on experience and knowledge to our team, and will play intergral roles in maintaining and enhancing MSI’s competitive edge and position as one of the leading mechanical engineering firms in the industry.”
