A VMZinc product generates reader interest; the Granoff Center wins another design award.
July 23, 2012 (Raleigh, NC) -- The VMZINC® Adeka roof shingles, manufactured by Umicore Building Products (UBP) headquartered in Raleigh, NC, generated more reader interest this past year than any other building product, according to Metal Construction News’ 2012 Readers Choice Products Awards.
To be considered for a Readers’ Choice award, the product had to appear in an issue between May 2011 and April 2012 (the Adeka pure zinc roof shingles were featured in the May 2011 edition). Only editorial inquiries were allowed (no leads from advertisements.) If a product appeared more than once, MCA only considered the mention with the highest number of leads.
“Umicore Building Products USA's VMZINC Adeka roof shingles provide longevity, low maintenance and style,” MCN notes. “The lightweight, preformed panel is quick and easy to install, and can improve thermal performance and cut energy usage. It can be used on both roofs and walls, and its rich textured effect, which can mimic asphalt asbestos shingles, makes it ideal for historic applications.”
And on the heels of a special Judges Award from Metal Magazine, the Granoff Center for the Creative Arts in Providence, Rhode Island, covered in VMZINC panels, has received another Judges Award, this time from Metal Architecture Magazine.
Designed by Diller, Scofidio + Renfro, the 36,000-square-foot Center features 60,000 square feet of VMZINC’s QUARTZ-ZINC panels.
Matal Architecture's editorial director, Peter Deffenbaugh, describes the building:
“There is quiet simplicity to the massing of the Perry and Marty Granoff Center for the Creative Arts building at Brown University in Providence, R.I. Along the glass-front elevation, you see two, side-by-side boxes, one uphill from the other. But walk around the building and you discover vertical and horizontal masses that break through the volumes. Plus, in a tour-de-force of metal, panels change shapes and create protruding, converging, extending lines that give the whole building a sense of movement. The simplicity of the massing becomes the canvas for the paneling.”
