Revit Technology Corporation Unveils Revit Release 3.0
February 28 Revit Technology Corporation, creator of the first parametric building modeler for the AEC industry, today announced the release of Revit 3.0. Building upon the parametric building technology that makes the computer - rather than the user - responsible for managing changes, Revit 3.0 now makes it possible for multiple team members to work together on large building projects with guaranteed consistency from initial design through completed construction documentation. Already famous for its amazing ease-of-use, Revit 3.0 introduces a wide range of new tools and capabilities to extend further its ability to create well-documented construction projects more quickly and capably than legacy CAD systems.
Revit 3.0 introduces worksets, which extend the multi-user functionality first included in release 2.0. Worksets allow team members to work simultaneously on separate sections of a single building model. Team members can view the entire model, but individuals can edit only components within worksets they have checked out of the shared model. Changes can be saved on the fly and are available to other team members when the workset is returned to the shared model. Unlike layer-based systems that rely on a file system and manually enforced project conventions to manage change, Revit's worksets combine asynchronous project collaboration with the always-coordinated consistency of a single, integrated parametric model.
Also in this issue of AECVision, I have the pleasure of interviewing Alex Nihaus, VP of Marketing for Revit and Rich Rundell, Director of product marketing, about the potential and practicality of this promising new CAD package.
